I love Halloween. Maybe it's because it takes place in  Autumn, my favorite season.  A Carolina Autumn is unlike any other. I love the kaleidoscope of colors spiraling through the air on a windy day, and the crunching  of those fallen leaves beneath my feet as I walk through the Quad to Calculus.  I love the bite of the breeze on a brisk Autumn day; the kind that almost convinces you to be late for class just so you can go back to your room and grab a jacket.  Carolina is a magical place, and that magic comes alive as Autumn sets in.

After that  out-of-place rant of how much I love Carolina, I just feel like sharing something tonight; something Halloween related.  It's my favorite Halloween movie, ever.  Check it out.

"Hocus Pocus"hocuspocus

This is my all-time favorite.  It's a great one for the family and yes, this is a Disney movie.  It's got humor, adventure, a love story and even some slightly scary moments.  It has also got some great musical numbers ( see "I Put A Spell On You" and "Come Little Children").  It's all about a coven of witches from Salem, Massachusetts who were sentenced to death for killing a young girl named Emily Binx by feeding off of her life force.  The witches cursed the girl's brother and themselves before they are killed by the townspeople.  The brother, Thackary Binx, is forced to become an immortal talking cat and the witches are able to cast a spell that will raise them from the dead if a virgin lights the Black Flame Candle in their house.

Sure enough, the movie fast forwards 300 years to when a young fellow, Max, lights the candle and raises the witches from the dead.  The rest of the movie is a heartwarming story of how Max and Binx work together to put the witches back to rest and rescue Max's little sister from becoming the witches' next victim.  I highly recommend this one.  Please watch it and let me know what you think of it.
